UC Berkeley Visit

In March 2026, the INFLUENCE team was pleased to host UC Berkeley’s Professor Mark Stacey and Bry Sarté of Sherwood Design Engineers, alongside a cohort of UC Berkeley students. The four-day visit featured a rigorous itinerary, which included essential data collection in high flood risk areas: South Oropouche and Nariva. Professor Stacey and Bry Sarte also delivered a compelling lecture at the UWI, St. Augustine, focusing on the transformative effects of nature-based solutions for flood mitigation.The INFLUENCE team worked closely with the Berkeley cohort throughout the week, fostering a valuable exchange of expertise and local knowledge.

Professor Stacey and Mr. Bry Sarte also delivered a compelling lecture at the UWI, St. Augustine, focusing on the transformative effects of nature-based solutions for flood mitigation. The INFLUENCE project team worked closely with the UC Berkeley group throughout the week, fostering a valuable exchange of expertise and local knowledge. This engagement forms part of INFLUENCE’s effort to strengthen capacity and collaboration for development of a more flood resilient Trinidad and Tobago, and the Caribbean region.
